Anna Van Housen is thirteen the first time she breaks her mother out of jail. By sixteen she’s street smart and savvy, assisting her mother, the renowned medium Marguerite Van Housen, in her stage show and séances, and easily navigating the underground world of magicians, mediums and mentalists in 1920’s New York City. Handcuffs and sleight of hand illusions have never been much of a challenge for Anna. The real trick is keeping her true gifts secret from her opportunistic mother, who will stop at nothing to gain her ambition of becoming the most famous medium who ever lived. But when a strange, serious young man moves into the flat downstairs, introducing her to a secret society that studies people with gifts like hers, he threatens to reveal the secrets Anna has fought so hard to keep, forcing her to face the truth about her past. Could the stories her mother has told her really be true? Could she really be the illegitimate daughter of the greatest magician of all?
EEEEEEEPPP!!!! MAJOR. COVER. LOVE. That girl is killin' it with that look!! And I love her lipstick plus the face net flowery bow thingy! LOL. Not only does this look good, but it sounds great!!! Like...like....a chocolate fountain! Ha ha...I could use one of those right about now, just like I could use this book right about NOW! But alas.....the point of WoW's IS to remind us how long of a torturous wait we still have before the book we're dying for is to come out...Si?...*sigh* Either way, I love magic, seances, illusions, annnnd the 20's, so hopefully I'll love this book :)

There ARE so many good books that have yet to release, and it is so hard picking just one—sometimes I cave and pick two, like I did this week :P—but you made a great choice! I've had my eye on Born of Illusion for a while, too. That cover, that blurb. I'm excited for the release! Hope you get your hands on a copy ASAP and enjoy it. Happy reading.

This cover always gets me, too. It's fantastically catching. Hope the book matches it.
ReplyDeleteI also must say - every time I come to you blog instead of just seeing it in my reader, I have an overwhelming desire for chocolate. =)
